I agree that the side view looks a bit odd, almost like the front and back are two completely different dresses, but I can't imagine that anyone will be staring at a straight side on view for any length of time.AllisonChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07431369603470575306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193367862444945572.post-12453268569208808182015-10-05T17:47:49.222-07:002015-10-05T17:47:49.222-07:00Beth, I think this dress is really cute on you! (I prefer it with your blue belt) I see you wearing this for any type of outing during the summer...brunch or lunch with the ladies, shopping (for more fabric, LOL!). It's a very nice casual dress. I think you're doing the right thing by putting it away until next summer. You'll have a fresh new prespective!Myrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04359520837946001668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193367862444945572.post-17934014643883986622015-10-05T14:26:35.946-07:002015-10-05T14:26:35.946-07:00I think the dress is lovely but maybe your feeling...I think the dress is lovely but maybe your feeling is due to how youthful the dress looks. I do this to myself, all the time. Make something with ruffles or in a sweet floral fabric and then wonder when I got to be 50. Ugh. I have two dresses, recently made that I probably won't ever wear, unless there is some really corny tropical party, one of the dresses would work for that.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10552031701513506213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193367862444945572.post-14326597965266566932015-10-04T17:53:57.879-07:002015-10-04T17:53:57.879-07:00Love the dress. They don't have to be bulky, but they have to be there for me, and they have to fit into the design really well. Since I don't want to carry a purse everywhere I go, my pocket needs to comfortably hold a little cash, a credit card and a car key.Charadehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16461603001722068211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193367862444945572.post-80360651228490201272015-10-04T13:19:17.326-07:002015-10-04T13:19:17.326-07:00I think the flounces add a bit too much volume. I'll be very extreme here...I would remove all the flounces and pockets and just leave a gathered skirt with that nice neckline. I also raise armholes quite often...no glamazon here either ;o)Sewing Princesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17337829909003253138noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193367862444945572.post-1293944983962810342015-10-03T18:09:54.829-07:002015-10-03T18:09:54.829-07:00I agree with the red.... very nice. You are a bright color and true, saturated color gal, not a mauve gal. Additionally, the pattern has one knit suggestion, matte jersey, which is crisper and less body hugging than the knit that you used. I think that with a more "you" colorway and floatier fabric you would be adoring this dress. That said, it is still a beautiful dress and I see some fall mileage with coordinating solid cardigans.Texas Urbanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13921506725496803946noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193367862444945572.post-88281463733830863822015-10-03T09:39:55.394-07:002015-10-03T09:39:55.394-07:00I really love this dress on you. I even omit them from pants because I feel they accentuate either my belly or my less than perfect derriere. I'd rather carry my stuff on a handbag... I don't remember if it was on a Bishop book or in Vogue's Book of Smart Dressmaking, but the other day I read that we cannot really judge clothes in still pictures because when we wear them we are usually moving around. So give it a chance! <br />(I do like the dress, btw)Eme Asteriscohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18439186988869838837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2193367862444945572.post-75087484729543731992015-10-03T04:46:14.232-07:002015-10-03T04:46:14.232-07:00This pattern does not allow the eye to have a rest...This pattern does not allow the eye to have a resting place unless you add the belt. Each flounce demands that you follow the diagonal or horizontal lines and then when you get to the side seams, like you pointed out, WHAM...they don't even match up. While the fabric pattern may look good close up, from a distance, the colors run together and blur which you and your personality do not need. If the fabric choice would have been more like the envelope fabric, 2 colors and more defined, it may have worked better. Leaving off the short back hip ruffle would allow for a cleaner more flattering line as you have a trim body. We learn so many things from a new pattern and even though it fits you well with the paper pattern alterations, we can sense when our garments aren't quite right, can't we? Maybe one less flounce, so the pockets really shine... definitely reuseable. But I admire your being willing to wear a dress that's tied at the natural waist, it looks good on you. I think it's one of the hardest looks to pull off. Thks for this review!
